The Great Rann of Kutch is one of the largest salt deserts in the world. Flooded in the monsoon, it dries in winter into a flat white crust that stretches to the horizon, and on full-moon nights it glows.
Bhuj is the base for the region, with palaces and museums, and nearby villages are known for embroidery, block printing, bell-making, and Rogan painting. In winter, the Rann Utsav festival sets up a tent city near the White Rann at Dhordo.

How to reach Rann of Kutch
By train
Bhuj station has direct trains from Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and other cities, including overnight services.
By road
The White Rann at Dhordo is about 85 km (around 2 hours) from Bhuj by taxi or bus.

Tents at the Rann Utsav tent city are much pricier than village homestays near the Rann or guesthouses in Bhuj. Hiring a taxi for the White Rann and Kalo Dungar is easiest; share it to save.

- Kutch borders Pakistan; follow signs and instructions from security forces, and don't stray off permitted areas.

- The salt reflects strong sun by day, and winter nights are cold. Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and a warm layer.
