Privacy policy

What we collect

• Your account, if you create one: your email address, and your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google.
• What you plan while signed in: trip preferences, searches, saved and shortlisted destinations, trips, itineraries, budgets, route legs, notes, and messages to the trip assistant.
• On your device only: your traveler profile and shortlist when signed out, plan drafts, offline trip copies (including emergency notes), and notification settings. These stay in your browser's storage and never reach our servers.
• Usage and technical data: pages visited, device and browser type, approximate location from your IP address, and error logs. We use your IP address for fair-use limits on the AI features.

How we use it

• To run the planner: generate destination ideas, itineraries, route checks, and assistant replies.
• To keep your trips in your account and in sync across your devices.
• To understand how the site is used and fix problems.
• To show advertising that keeps WanderTrails free.
• To prevent abuse, such as automated overuse of the AI features.

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use your trips to target ads.

Services that process data for us

• AI providers (currently Groq, OpenRouter, and Anthropic) receive the preferences and messages needed to answer each request. Avoid putting sensitive personal details in assistant messages.
• Supabase hosts accounts and saved trips. Vercel hosts the site.
• Google Maps receives the start and end points of routes you check.
• Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and Vercel Analytics measure site usage.
• Google AdSense shows ads on some public pages.

Cookies and advertising

We use cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in, remember your settings, measure usage, and show ads. Ads appear only on some public guide pages, never inside your trips or account.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's advertising cookies let it and its partners serve ads based on those visits. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google's Ad Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info. Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

In the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland, advertising and analytics cookies stay off until you choose in the consent message, and you can change your choice from the link that message leaves on the page.

Keeping and deleting your data

Account data is kept until you delete it. You can delete trips individually, or delete your whole account from your profile, which removes your account and everything saved with it. Signing out clears your offline trip copies and other account data from that device; clearing your browser's site data removes the rest.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict how it's used. Email us to make a request; we'll reply within 30 days.

Children

WanderTrails isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
