AI travel planning

AI Travel Planner and Itinerary Maker for India

Plan a trip in India around your budget, dates and starting city: places that fit, costs in rupees, a route check and a day-by-day itinerary you can edit. Free. Built for travellers who want one place to choose where to go, check the budget and build the plan.

Most trip planning starts in the wrong place: with a destination picked from a photo, then a budget stretched to fit it. An AI travel planner works the other way round. You set what's fixed, such as how many days you have, what you can spend, when you can go, and how you like to travel, and it looks for places where those constraints actually work.

WanderTrail then carries that plan through the steps people usually do in separate tabs: comparing a shortlist, checking whether the budget holds up category by category, testing whether the route and connections are realistic, and saving a day-by-day itinerary you can edit.

A good itinerary isn't a list of sights; it's a sequence that works, with the right order, realistic travel between stops and rest where you need it. WanderTrail builds a day-by-day draft from your destination, dates and pace, then lets you edit every day, move items around, mark what's booked and keep private notes. Save it, keep an offline copy, or publish a public version.

It works for a fast backpacking route and for a slow vacation alike. For a vacation, choose a relaxed pace and private rooms, and plan around one or two bases rather than moving every day.

How to plan it

Plan it in four steps

  1. 01

    Start with your constraints

Enter your budget, trip length, month, and starting point. The month matters most: the same place can be ideal in October and closed by snow in January.

  2. 02

    Shortlist two or three places

Look at why each suggestion matched and what it would cost, then save the ones worth comparing rather than committing to the first.

  3. 03

    Stress-test the budget

Break the estimate into stay, food, transport, and activities, and add a buffer. A trip that only fits the budget with nothing going wrong doesn't fit.

  4. 04

Check the route before you book

Add the legs there and back with times. Tight transfers, overnight travel, and long road days are where plans usually fail.

Worked example

Example: 7 days in Sikkim in October

Constraints: one week, mid-October, starting from Bagdogra, a budget of about ₹25,000 per person, and a preference for mountain views over nightlife.

The plan

  1. Days 1–2: Gangtok, Rumtek Monastery, and MG Marg
  2. Day 3: Tsomgo Lake day trip (permit via a registered operator)
  3. Day 4: North Sikkim if the roads are open, otherwise more time around Gangtok
  4. Day 5: Ravangla and Buddha Park
  5. Day 6: Pelling for the Kanchenjunga sunrise
  6. Day 7: Back to Bagdogra

What it costs

Stays (6 nights)
₹5,000–9,000
Food
₹3,000–5,000
Shared jeeps and transfers
₹3,000–5,500
Permits and day tours
₹3,000–5,500
Total
₹14,000–25,000 per person

Excludes getting to Bagdogra. October is the clearest month for views, so book stays in Pelling early.

Tips

What experienced travellers do

Plan the fixed things first

Permits, flights, and anything that sells out go first; flexible days fill in around them.

Keep a buffer day

In mountain areas especially, one spare day absorbs a landslide, a cancelled flight, or simply a day you want to stay longer.

Price the whole trip, not the stay

Transport and entry fees often add up to more than accommodation, especially in the Himalaya.

Verify before booking

Use AI estimates to choose and plan, then confirm current prices, schedules, and rules with the operator or official source.

On vacation, stay put

One or two bases with day trips beat changing hotels every night on a short holiday.

Leave slack

Keep afternoons or a whole day unplanned; on a vacation, rest is part of the plan.

Try these prompts

Start with a real constraint

“7 days in October from Bengaluru, ₹25,000 each, mountains and monasteries.”
“A relaxed 5-day family holiday from Mumbai in December, no long road days.”

Questions

Frequently asked

How does WanderTrail choose places?

An AI model suggests places for your budget, days, month and starting city, and WanderTrail then checks each one against your constraints, such as season, travel time and total cost, before ranking it. Places that miss a constraint are shown separately with the reason.

Are the prices and travel times exact?

No. They're estimates to help you choose and plan, not quotes. Check fares, rooms, permits and road conditions with the operator or official source before you book.

Can I plan with friends?

Yes. Share a shortlist as a Plan together poll on WhatsApp; friends vote with just a first name, no sign-up.

Is WanderTrail free?

Yes. Discover, comparison, budgeting, route checks, and saved itineraries are free, with fair-use limits on AI searches.

Does the planner book hotels or tickets?

No. It helps you choose and plan; you book directly with the providers you prefer.

Can it plan a relaxed vacation rather than a backpacking trip?

Yes. Choose a relaxed pace and private rooms, set a budget that fits, and adjust each category in the budget simulator.

Does it plan group or family trips?

Set the number of travellers and a relaxed pace, and the budget is estimated for your whole group.

Can I edit the itinerary after it's generated?

Yes. Every day and item can be edited, reordered, marked as booked, or removed, and your changes are saved to your trip.

Can I share or publish my itinerary?

Yes. Share a private link or publish a public version without your private notes.
