Goa is India's smallest state and one of its most relaxed. The north (Anjuna, Vagator, Arambol) has the nightlife and markets; the south (Palolem, Agonda, Cola) is slower and greener.
Inland, Old Goa's churches and Panaji's Latin quarter show a different side, and in the monsoon the whole state turns green and quiet.

How to reach Goa
By train
Madgaon (Margao) for the south and Thivim for the north, both on the Konkan Railway.
By road
Overnight buses from Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru. Inside Goa, local buses are cheap but slow.

- Swim only where lifeguards are posted and flags allow it. Currents are strong, especially from May to September.

- Rent from a licensed shop, carry your licence, and wear a helmet: police checks are common.

- Choose the north for nightlife and markets, the south for quiet beaches. A few days in each works well.
